Support This Project
All research on this site is free. No paywall. No lockout.
One-off or monthly. Any amount. 0% platform fee on one-off contributions.
This project exists because public information about Australian civic systems should be accessible to everyone, not just people who can afford a subscription.
If you find the work useful and you can afford to chip in, your support keeps it sustainable.
If you cannot, please use the research freely. That is why it exists.
What support covers
| Expense | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Web hosting (Cloudflare Pages or Bunny.net) | $0 to $5 |
| Domain name (annual, divided by 12) | ~$2 |
| AI research tools (Claude) | $20 to $30 |
| Email and admin | $5 |
| Total | ~$30 to $40 per month |
Anything beyond costs goes toward the time it takes to keep everything updated: reviewing legislation, chasing FOI releases, tracking court judgments, responding to corrections.
No one is getting rich from this project. The goal is sustainability, not profit.

Supporter items
If you'd like a tangible thank-you for supporting the project, a small range of items is available. All designed in Australia, printed by independent Australian print shops, mailed from a home address.
- Sticker pack (3 stickers): $8 plus postage
- "Roots grow in the dark" tote bag: $25 plus postage (coming soon)
- "Roots grow in the dark" T-shirt: $40 plus postage, printed to order (coming soon)
These cover production costs and contribute to the project. Profit margin is small. The point is the support, not the shop.
If you can't afford to support
Use the research freely. That is why it exists.
If you are a student, a community legal worker, a researcher in financial difficulty, or a survivor navigating one of the situations covered in this folder, please don't feel pressure to donate. Your engagement, sharing, citing, and correcting is already valuable.
Financial transparency
This project has no sponsors, no advertisers, no political affiliations. It is funded entirely by voluntary support.
An annual financial summary will be published each January. First report due January 2027.
What your support does not do
- It does not buy influence over research conclusions.
- It does not unlock hidden content. There is no hidden content.
- It does not entitle you to personal legal or medical advice. For specific situations, please consult a qualified professional.
- It does not obligate me to respond to every email. I try. Time is finite.
Every contribution, $3 or $30, tells me this work matters to someone other than me. That is the only metric that counts.
